Ways I Can Help

  • CONSTRUCTION AND REAL ESTATE CASES – My family trade is construction.  My grandfather on my dad’s side was a road contractor.  My grandfather on my mom’s side was a paint contractor.  My dad and both of my uncles on my dad’s side are general contractors.  (I do have one uncle on my mom’s side who is a preacher, though.)

I serve as general counsel for a regional contracting firm with a focus on churches, nursing homes, and other large projects.  I have represented numerous real estate developers and investors, neighborhood associations, and contractors in a variety of cases.  This includes representing clients in active litigation as well as contract and dispute negotiation, arbitration, mediation, and strategic planning.

  • BUSINESS LITIGATION CASES – I have been representing businesses since I started practicing law in 2012.  My first client was a Lexington cemetery who had been sued.  That case was successfully resolved prior to trial and the cemetery is still my client to this day, along with the cemetery owner and most of the rest of his family.

From car lots to cabinet makers to funeral homes to specialty caterers, I have represented a wide variety of businesses in my career.  I pride myself on treating litigation from a strategic business perspective and not a way to churn unnecessary fees.

  • FAMILY LAW CASES – I handle (almost) every type of family law case.  That includes divorce (including same-sex divorce), child custody and visitation, child support, child neglect and abuse, adoption, termination of parental rights, domestic abuse and protection orders, grandparent’s rights, and relocation cases.

My highest calling as a lawyer is serving as a guardian ad litem in Dependency, Neglect, and Abuse cases where I am appointed to represent children who are alleged to have been neglected or abused.  I have completed the most advanced guardian ad litem training offered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and consider it an honor to be selected to represent these children, especially while this state and nation are coming to grips with the opiate epidemic.

If it involves a domestic relations issue in Kentucky, I have probably already had a very similar case and probably a client very satisfied with the result.

  • ESTATE PLANNING – Everyone (almost) should have a basic will and other estate planning in place.  I offer wills, living wills, health care surrogate designations, powers of attorney, trusts (including special needs trusts and other special purpose trusts), and other comprehensive estate planning. Because I am deeply involved in family court cases, I am able to draft very precise documents that can cover such tragic events like the unexpected death of a child’s parent and other horrors.
